Property Tribes

A tribute to YOU, the Tribe, and where it all started ....

Last night, at our Surrey Social Media Tribes event, something amazing happened that rendered Nick speechless, me tearful, and both of us overwhelmed and humbled.

As Nick started to introduce the evening, one of our delegates, Sally Asling of Surrey Lets, suddenly marched up to the front of the room and announced that she was going to "hi-jack" the meeting for a few moments. Nick and I wondered what on earth was going on!

Sally then made the most wonderful and empassioned speech. I wish I could remember exactly what she said, word for word, but we were not recording the event, so I will just have to paraphrase it.

Sally said that it was the first year anniversary of since she started attending our networking events. She therefore wanted to acknowledge our contribution to her business success.

"Fourteen months to the day, I was working in corporate land and sacked somebody for using FaceBook during office hours. Two months later, I decided to leave the corporate world, and set up my own business, Surrey Lets. I happened upon Nick and Vanessa's monthly event, which, at the time, was to do with property as well as optimising the social web. Through this, I was introduced to the social web, and I saw the opportunity this presented, and embraced it, to the extent that I can now attribute a significant chunk of my income to these activities.

There is most definitely an ROI on engaging on the social web and I learned this through Nick and Vanessa. I wanted to let them know the very positive impact they have had on me and my business, and to thank them for their support and generosity of sharing information. I want Vanessa and Nick to know that they have created so much goodwill and loyalty in their Tribe, and that I am proud to be a member of their community".

Sally and another of our delegates, Richard Smith, then produced champagne and nibbles for the whole group, which they had arranged and sponsored without our knowledge!!

We had no idea that they had organised this amazing tribute and surprise for us!

When you create a closeness to the extent that someone wants to celebrates the effort that you put into the world in such a generous way, it is a very touching moment. It also proves that community creates emotional wealth as much as financial wealth.

Nick and I were totally overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity showed to us last night. We could feel the love and friendship in the room and my eyes welled up. It was a truly special moment that Nick and I will both treasure and smile about.

She didn't say this last night, but, in the past 12 months, Sally has started a second business, has an industry-leading blog, a dedicated following on Twitter, and been picked up by various newspapers as a commentator and to write content - and all this came about through engaging, making connections, and being found on the social web.

Sally, we are also honored to be part of your tribe.

Nick and I are very proud of Sally and all she has achieved and she is a shining star on the social web, and leads by example.  (She has written a blog about last night from her point of view >>> here).

Therefore, this blog is not about us.

It is dedicated to our tribe - our dear friends, associates, peers, and learn-ed people who chose to support us in supporting you. This is not about the individual, it is about the community.

It is about the power of friendship and community.

It is a tribute to the fact that sharing people is as important as sharing information.

It is a testament to the fact that "none of us is as smart as all of us". ~ Kevin Kelly.

The social web is fed by "people power". The business success stories of the future will be those people who appreciate that contributing to the web and community, not taking from it, is the way forwards.

Financial wealth is important, but emotional wealth is priceless.

From myself and Nick, a heartfelt thank you to you all for supporting us and inspiring us.  As each new member joins the tribe, we have new experience and connections to add to the mix, and we all become stronger and grow as a result.

Here's to the most supportive Property Tribe on the web.  YOU!

Well deserved V and Nick!

Looking forward to the exciting times ahead for Tribes and Tribettes alike!

Kind regards, Lisa
Thank you Lisa. Looking forward to meeting the delightful Ms. Orme ... finally ... on Monday afternoon. x
I came to Tribes through 4 Walls, I normally avoid Property Forums because generally the driving force is to make money out of making money. My business is to make money - but it is making money out of providing decent homes, and 4 walls had a resonance for me about ethics. If you do a search on Google for "Nick Parkin" or "Pimlico Flats" you will find me all over the Internet. But you won't find me in any other Property Forum, simply because I think that this is the one Property Forum on the Internet that I feel comfortable with the ethics of.

Well done Nick T & Vanessa
Thank you Nick. Your support, comments, and kind words are much appreciated and we very much value your contributions here. x
Thank you Peter. Your kind words and your contributions here are much appreciated.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’d be no-where without this site. It is the single most important factor, bar none, in my property education and in moving my property business forward.

Vanessa and Nick have done a cracking job this last year on creating a site that people feel free to express themselves on without fear of being embarassed or 'shot down' by other members. There is a good mix of newbies and old hands, and people generally treat each other with respect.

Other property sites have larger member numbers, but few have the high level of involvement that PT has. There are so many ways to make money in property, and its fascinating to hear the different viewpoints and experiences of members.

I will look forward to the new features of 'PT v2' and wish Vanessa and Nick all the best as PT goes from strength to strength.

Just adding very, very belated congratulations, and also well done to Sally for co-ordinating it. Sorry it's taken me so long to catch up with this thread ...

Thanks, Nick and Vanessa, for personal support. That's what makes your forum different from anywhere else.

What I think I value even more is the genuine fundamental emphasis you have laid on ethics. It is almost as if there is a strong current working through the 'tribe' to be genuinely professional. Amazing that that should happen without it being formally called for, by way of the formation of an 'institution' instead. It is like a living corporate body being formed, not a dead one. It is such a privilege and a pleasure to contribute - and to value every other contributor too.

Surely this is the power of social media in action?

Well done - to put it mildly.
