Vanessa interviews Michael Oon @michaeloon about using Feng Shui in property investment ...

In this short interview, I talk to Feng Shui Consultant Michael Oon about using this ancient art in the context of property investment.  I hope you find this as interesting as I do

Mmm, interesting. I don’t know much about this but a couple of things I have heard, like how streets can curve away from some houses but around others, makes sense. Also closing the loo seat I gather is good feng shui!

On the other hand I’m naturally sceptical of undefined talk of ‘energy’. This is often a word which people apply to something that can’t be measured or detected except in the mind. In short, something imaginary. Real energy can always be detected and measured physically.

In short, and from what little I know, the basic precepts make a lot of sense. I’m just sceptical about the explanations.

We tend to be fundamentally sceptical about the notion that there is energy around, the existence of which we have never previously been aware, been taught about, or understood. This scepticism can come partly from our understanding that all matter is composed of other matter (e.g. 'bits') with some kind of force (energy) connecting them together to some degree to become objects, largely disconnected from surrounding objects.

If one thinks that 'matter' is actually energy which as been condensed, and that that source of original energy is all-pervasive, then it becomes easier to see that everything is inter-connected and still under the influence of that originating energy. One could take as an illustration of this some thorough research that has shown that electrons (parts of an atom) are not orbiting particles within atoms, but packets of energy in motion around a nucleus. This has to do with the scientific field of electro-magnetism, which is being very actively investigated at the moment by a number of scientists, building on work produced by scientists a century or two ago (Google James Clerk Maxwell for one, if interested, and his concept of 'quaternions' and 'aether').

Science is finding out more about this. Experimental work which is revealing it seems to be most solidly based in the field of 'torsion physics' (the which 'Google', if interested): more generally, in the field of plasma physics.

Let's just ask a question,"Why is fresh air so good"?... and conversely, what is 'stale air'?

Maybe Michael could give us an answer to these two questions. That would be interesting.

Richard Thanks for the comment

Feng Shui is about the movement of energy in the environment and your comment begs the question – what is energy and can it be measured?

Energy is all around us. It starts from the most obvious – light, sound, heat (infra-red), cold (ultra violet), movement of objects – cars, people, wind or breeze. All these can be detected and measured.

The secondary source of energy is matter or things like people, cars, houses are energy via the Einstein equation
E = mc(squared) where E=energy, m = mass, c = speed of light.

Explanations:

It is my aim in my blog to demonstrate how lives can be improved by using feng shui and also, provide a clear explanation.

If you haven't heard Michael speak or met him in person - you should. There is no fluff and everything is measured out carefully until stopping firmly at a boundary in his knowledge. I like that.

A bit of personal history - I used another feng-shui consultant when I refurbished a house between 2004-6 - I didn't know Michael then. I came in on budget when most people undertaking similar projects were 30-70% over budget.

A bit of personal opinion - I think the UK still associates 'feng shui' with arranging scatter cushions and placing wind-chimes about. We have a bit of a tendency to associate it with 'Mystic Meg', reading tea leaves etc. Why this should be the case I don't really know. First off - the Chinese are a clever culture - even if at times their rather heavy-handed approach to issues such as human rights raises alarm - they have been around a long time - and anything running a long time deserves a second look. Second - this is surely about energy. Energy is physics (picked up on by Brian) and if you can manipulate energy - that's a big step to improving your environment - no?

I've been interested in this and other forms of energy exchange such as Reiki for years. I know a tiny little amount about them both - but keen to know more.

I'd also like at some point to engage Michael in work-place activity around my business. People in the wrong energy channels in 'sick' corporate offices etc cost the nation billions a year in illness - not to mention getting less out of their lives when they are there.

This is an important and interesting arena - and one we should be motivated to know more about.

I'd just like to point out that there is huge and controversial debate in scientific circles at the moment about Einstein's insertion of 'c', the 'constant' in his formula e = mc squared, as being required (as he stated) as being the speed of light (in a vacuum).

Purely as a mathematician, as he was, Einstein himself stated publicly that he was not convinced that this 'constant' was entirely fully justified in his theory, when it came to relating it to real physics, observation, and measurable experiment.

The current debate has arisen partly as a result of research work which points to the universe's main and fastest-moving energy component as being electro-magnetism, not light (or gravity, for that matter); and partly from apparent flaws in mathematics which relate to Einstein's conclusions, arising both before and after Einstein's time.

Obviously this is not the place to go into any detail on this. I would just refer anyone who is interested to do Google searches on 'Stephen J Crothers', 'The Electric Universe' and 'Plasma' to look into this further, if they wish.

In no way am I contradicting Michael in this observation, by the way: if anything, this gives much more powerful support to his view than reliance on the standard understanding of 'e=mc squared': which I am sure is on the right lines anyway.

Please bear in mind that I am neither a scientist nor a mathematician; nor do I have anything other than a very basic conception of what makes Feng Shui what it is as something based in reality. I do feel though that the weight of evidence and argument referred to here is sufficient to be taken seriously; particularly as it would then make Feng Shui make a lot more sense than it is currently given credit for according to established scientific understandings, theories, models and assumptions.
